DSL known as (digital subscriber line) basically performs a function of transferring digital data through the lines of telephone.

Following are a few major advantages of BROADBAND DSL:

  1. The first major advantage is that you can leave your broadband DSL free and use your telephone line for voice conversation.
  2. The broadband DSL has a much more high speed as compared with the regular phone line and it has an ability to transfer data at a high rate.
  3. DSL operates on the same line no additional wiring is required.
  4. Company offering DSL services will also provide a modem for installation.

Few disadvantages that a BROADBAND DSL has are as follows:

  1. The DSL will work best when the central office providing the services is very close to the location from where you are operating.
  2. The connection transfers the data at a very high pace if only it receives it fast.
  3. BROADBAND DSL services are not available in each and every location.

DSL mainly uses two types of equipments one at the home and the other one at the internet service provider. At the customer end there is a DSL transceiver and at the service provider side we have a DSLAM. Mostly a DSL transceiver is called a DSL modem.

The basic function that it performs is that it connects the data from the customer end with the DSL line. DSLAM which is present at the service provider usually makes things happen. DSLAM picks up multiple connections from various sources and accumulate them in a single connection. The basic difference between a cable system and a DSL is that when more users are added in a cable system the performance decreases but in case of DSL when more users are added the overall performance remains unchanged.
