Problem in sharing an internet connection

You got more than one computers at home at finally you managed to get a High speed internet i.e. DSL but you came across problems in sharing that connection in your home network. So to solve this kind of problem you must have knowledge about the types of the internet sharing. So generally there are two basic ways to share an Internet connection:

· Use the Internet Connection Sharing feature. It is the part of Windows XP.

· Use a router in between various computers and the cable/DSL modem.

Why Do I Keep Receiving Shutdown Messages?

This is the indication that you station connected to the go home network is suffering from the blaster worm or similar such kind of worms. You need to protect your computer from further infections and the computer present on the network too. And you have to remove this kind of virus or worms. Most important is that you automatic updates should be ON so that your computer is guarded against new virus definitions. It is strongly recommended to install a Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Can’t See My Computer on the Network

This problem normally arises when you use a windows 98, windows ME but it is very different in case you are using windows XP. The main cause of a disappearing Windows XP based computer on the network is probably a computer’s browsing issue.

You can connect you computer by knowing the ip address even if it is not been shown in the computer network windows. For example, if you want to connect the computer placed in one office with the computer placed in any other room, all you have to know is the IP address of that home office computer. to get the ip of the computer just:

Click Start menu, click All Programs, go to Accessories, and click Command Prompt. A command window will appear.

Type in ipconfig as shown below in the Figure, and then press Enter key.

Here in the picture it is indicating that your ip address is 192.168.50.100

Now you have got the right ip address to work on just go to the other computer and click start menu and click run. Type in “command” and press Enter.

After opening the command prompt, type the command as shown below..

Just type in net use * \\192.168.50.100\foldername as shown in Figure and press Enter key.

Now the Z: drive is ready and you don’t have the need to go repeatedly to the networking menu. Your Z:\ drive is now active and you don’t need to be worry while doing your important work.
